Coach Profile - Peter

May 1974 - 1977. Rotherham Judo Club, Herringthorpe Leisure Centre, Rotherham.

Started Judo after Mother (Hilary) sees a newspaper advert following a difficult period
at school (being small and deaf). Shortly afterwards Hilary starts Judo! Hilary meets
and marries another Judo player! Collect first ever medal – a Bronze medal in Club
Championships in 1975.

1977 - 1980. Georgian Judo Club, Old Grindstone Pub, Crookes, Sheffield.

Parents invited to run club after qualifying as coaches. Mother and step Father gain
black belt awards. Member of the team entered in the Sheffield and District League.
Win Gold medal every year in Club Championships (undefeated in own weight
group). South Yorkshire Champion in own weight group in 1980.

1980 – 1988. Dronfield Judo Club, Dronfield Leisure Centre, Dronfield, Near
Sheffield. Hemsworth Judo Club, Hemsworth College, Hemsworth, Near Barnsley.

Parents start new club in Dronfield and invited to run Hemsworth club.
Assistant coach at both clubs but not graded high enough to be a qualified coach.
Win Gold medal every year in Club Championships (undefeated in own weight group).
South Yorkshire Champion in own weight group 1981-1983. South Yorkshire
representative in inter-counties competition. Yorkshire and Humberside Area
Champion 1982. Took part in the National Junior Championships at Crystal Place, but
lost in a first round contest to eventual Gold medallist! Win player of the day trophy at
Knottingley Judo Club Championships 1983. Became a senior player October 1983.
Third place in Yorkshire and Humberside Championships in 1985? – despite
opponents having 15 kg weight advantage. Qualified competition official (senior
recorder qualification), able to organise own tournaments.

Jan 1989 moved to Amesbury

1989 – 2003. Winchester Judo Club, Lido Centre, Winchester.

Hampshire county representative in inter-counties competition on numerous
occasions between 1995-2001. Southern Area Championship runner-up 1995.
Gained Black Belt award 1996. Officially qualified as a coach (UKCC Level 2) Dec 1999.

1993 – 1994. Salisbury Judo Club, Manor Hospital (Now Salisbury Leisure Centre), Salisbury.

1994 – 2001. New Forest Park Judo Club, Calmore Community Centre, Totton, Southampton.

1999 – 2000. Middle Wallop Judo Club, Middle Wallop community hall, Middle Wallop.

Assistant coach. Meets Sebastain, the other Moonrakers Judo Club coach.

May 2001 – Present. Moonrakers Judo Club. Godolphin School Sports Hall, Salisbury.

Invited to start new club at Moonrakers Fitness Club (now called LA Fitness). Club
moved to Scout Hut during refurbishment at LA Fitness. Club now established at the
Godolphin School Sports Hall.

April 2003. Sustained serious knee injury in a grading contest.

June 2003 starts Salisbury Competitions after receiving a Millenium Award Grant.

2004. Qualifed as a Southern Area Grading Examiner for gradings up to 1st Kyu (Brown Belt).

May 2005. Qualifed as an Area Referee.

Dec 2005. Qualified as Senior Club Coach (UKCC level 3).

Dec 2007. Qualified as a National C Referee.
